December Scottish Building Society Player of the Month nominees

7 Jan 2025

The nominees for December's Scottish Building Society Player of the Month have today been announced, with a quartet of players selected by the coaching staff as the standouts in through the month.

Prop Boan Venter, centre Matt Currie, and back-rows Luke Crosbie and Ben Muncaster have all been nominated for their performances during December – a month that saw Edinburgh earn impressive home wins against rivals Glasgow and Bayonne.

The winning player will be able to donate £500 – courtesy of Scottish Building Society – to a charity of their choice from our main club partner’s foundation.

Boan Venter

Giant prop Venter has been a mainstay in the capital pack this season, playing in every single match of the campaign thus far. Venter was pivotal for the capital in both 1872 matches over the festive period, bagging a brace at Hampden Park, before producing a standout display in the reverse fixture at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

Matt Currie

The young outside-centre has been a consistent performer in the Edinburgh midfield, showing up well in defence and attack. Currie made eye-catching breaks against Gloucester at Kingsholm and notched his first score of the season against Bayonne at Hive Stadium.

Luke Crosbie

The imposing back-rower was back to his grizzly best in December, playing a key part in overpowering Aviron Bayonnais at home, before earning the BKT URC Player of the Match award for an aggressive and combative display against Glasgow.

Ben Muncaster

Muncaster showed his worth to the capital in December, putting a brace of energetic and dogged displays against Glasgow. Ever-physical and full of energy, an eye-catching moment saw the back-row pick up and rag-doll Kyle Steyn to the floor at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, setting the tone for a ferocious capital display.
