March Scottish Building Society POTM nominees

The nominees for March's Scottish Building Society Player of the Month have today been announced, with a quartet of players selected by the coaching staff as the standouts in through the month.

Stand-off Ross Thompson, scrum-half Ben Vellacott, full-back Wes Goosen, and back-row Magnus Bradbury all caught the eye in a month that saw Edinburgh claim an impressive home bonus-point win against the Dragons Hive Stadium, and earned a losing bonus-point in a gutsy display away against Benetton.

The winning player will be able to donate £500 – courtesy of Scottish Building Society – to a charity of their choice from our main club partner’s foundation.

Ross Thompson

The fly-half has enjoyed a series of starts in the number 10 jersey, with his cultured left boot steering the capital to a six-point month. Thompson gained 353 metres with the boot in Treviso, whilst providing a cross-field kick try assist for Ross McCann.

The playmaker then helped his side on their way towards a bonus-point win at Hive Stadium against the Dragons.

Magnus Bradbury

The number-eight has been at his abrasive best recently, regularly becoming the go-to man for gain line metres. No player made more carries through March, with Bradbury going to contact 28 times – regularly straight into the guts of the opposition defence.

Bradbury has also got through a huge amount of work in defence, making 29 tackles on the opposite side of the ball.

Wes Goosen

‘Goose’ has enjoyed a whirlwind couple of months, claiming his 50th appearance for the club, and continues to be the only capital man to be ever-present this campaign.

Goosen regularly provided spark in attack for the men in blue and orange, beating eight defenders and making three linebreaks with ball in hand, whilst also making two line-breaks assists for his teammates.

Ben Vellacott

Club co-captain Vellacott has often been someone to provide spark in the capital attack, and March was no exception. The speedster’s delivery from the base of the ruck regularly helped get the capital on the front foot.

The scrum-half also kicked excellently in challenging conditions in Italy, kicking for 247m from 9 kicks in the rain.
