May Scottish Building Society POTM nominees

6 Jun 2025

The nominees for May's Scottish Building Society Player of the Month have today been announced, with a quartet of players selected by the coaching staff as the standouts in through the month.

Number-eight Magnus Bradbury, scrum-half Ali Price, lock Sam Skinner, and hooker Ewan Ashman all impressed in a month that saw Edinburgh claim impressive bonus point wins against Connacht and Ulster, whilst putting in valiant performances in defeat against Bath and the Vodacom Bulls.

The winning player will be able to donate £500 – courtesy of Scottish Building Society – to a charity of their choice from our main club partner’s foundation.

Magnus Bradbury

Big Maggie was at his best in May, leading from the front as captain in the absence of the injured Grant Gilchrist and Ben Vellacott. The number eight has always been a willing carrier of the ball, regularly taking the ball up dark alleyways to get the team go forward, and May was no different.

A crowning performance was his Player of the Match display against Ulster, that saw Bradbury power over for two tries, before leading with an immense display at Loftus Versfeld in which he carried 20 times for 136 metres, beating 5 would-be tacklers.

Ali Price

British and Irish Lion scrum-half Price showed all his quality in his final month of rugby in the capital. The playmaker’s experience shone through in a string of stellar displays, particularly in the season’s final two matches against Ulster and the Bulls.

Price’s abilities were on full display against Bath in the EPCR Challenge Cup semi-final, with the number nine scurrying over for a score whilst managing the game expertly in the face of a Bath side bristling with momentum.

Sam Skinner

Lock Skinner has enjoyed an end of season run that saw him start every game in May, leading influentially in a pack that helped keep Edinburgh in tightly fought affairs.

A pivotal moment of the month was away against Connacht – with the game on the line the set-piece fired masterfully under Skinner’s watchful eye for a crucial score away in Galway.

Ewan Ashman

Ashman continues to be one of the most dynamic performers in the capital pack, regularly hitting double figures for ball carries throughout May. The powerful front-row also provided the scoring touch, with a brilliant solo effort against Ulster, before smashing over the line against the Bulls to keep the capital in the match in Pretoria.
