Ritchie voted April’s Scottish Building Society Player of the Month

9 May 2024

Club centurion and Scotland internationalist Jamie Ritchie has today been voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for April.

Ritchie impressed throughout the month, showcasing his trademark work ethic, tenacity and dynamic play while operating across the capital back-row.

He was a constant presence at the breakdown, contributing significantly to Edinburgh’s back-to-back league victories over Scarlets and Cardiff Rugby which kept the capital club in the race for a top-eight finish in the BKT United Rugby Championship.

Ritchie was named BKT Player of the Match for his commanding performance at Cardiff Arms Park, where a number of characteristic breakdown steals helped seal an impressive road win the Welsh capital.

Commenting on his award, Ritchie said: “It’s a huge honour to be named Scottish Building Society Player of the Month.

“It’s been a really positive month for the team with some important wins, and I’m just happy to be playing my part. I’d like to thank my teammates, coaches, and the supporters that voted for me for their continued backing.”

He continued: “It’s always special to receive individual recognition, but for me, the team’s success comes first. We’ve secured some crucial victories in April, and that’s what I’m most proud of. This award is a reflection of that collective effort.”

Scottish Building Society have once again donated £500 to the winner’s charity or cause of choice with Ritchie choosing Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Ronald McDonald House Charites provide free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families that have children in nearby hospitals, providing invaluable support at a critical time in their lives.

Ritchie added: “Winning Scottish Building Society Player of the Month is a huge honour, but being able to support a fantastic cause like Ronald McDonald House Charities is even more rewarding. They are a brilliant organisation that will always have a special place in me and my family’s hearts.

“Knowing my donation can help families stay close to their children while they receive treatment is something I’m very proud of. They do incredible work there, and I’m hopeful this generous contribution from Scottish Building Society can make a small difference.”

Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach Sean Everitt has praised Ritchie’s contribution in April, saying:

“Jamie thoroughly deserves this recognition. He’s been outstanding for us all season, leading by example on and off the field.

“His work rate and defensive prowess are invaluable, and he’s also a real threat in attack. We’re fortunate to have him at Edinburgh Rugby.”
