Schoeman voted January’s Scottish Building Society Player of the Month

Fan favourite and Scotland internationalist prop Pierre Schoeman has today been voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for January.

Schoeman has claimed the majority of fan votes to be crowned the winner of January’s award after impressing in European clashes against Gloucester and Scarlets.

The all-action prop, who never fails to give 100% in the blue of Edinburgh and Scotland, played a key role in both European fixtures as Edinburgh booked their placed in the last 16 of Europe, with a knockout clash against Bayonne to come at Hive Stadium on Sat 6 April.

On claiming the award, Schoeman said: “It’s a real privilege to be voted Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for January.

“It was great to get an important team win down at Scarlets, and I was really happy with the overall performance that secured our place in the last 16 of the Challenge Cup.

“It’s always nice to pick up fan-voted awards, and especially so from the Edinburgh supporters. Whether I’m playing for Edinburgh or Scotland, the support I receive from the fans in the stands is unbelievable – it definitely helps drive you on.”

A monster up front, Schoeman continues to dominate at set-piece time while his defensive efforts proved the difference in the bonus-point win at Parc y Scarlets.

A menace at the breakdown, Schoeman appeared to be causing havoc in the Scarlets ranks with every opportunity, while the loosehead prop popped up with a try just after half-time to help extend Edinburgh’s lead in West Wales.

Schoeman’s try-scoring form has continued onto the international stage, with Schoeman grabbing a score in Saturday’s Guinness Six Nations victory against Wales at Principality Stadium.

He continued: “I’m loving my rugby right now and there is a really good vibe at Edinburgh, especially with Sean [Everitt] coming in, who has been brilliant to work with.

“We’ve got some big games to come for Scotland and Edinburgh, and I’m fully focused on making sure I can perform for the fans – thank you once again for voting me your Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for January.”

Main Club Partner Scottish Building Society will once again donate £500 to Schoeman’s chosen charity, with the prop choosing Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.

Schoeman is well versed in raising funds for the local charity, having shaved off his famous blonde locks during the squad’s Christmas visit to the hospital, raising over £10K for those in the care of Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.

Schoeman continued: “I’m hugely thankful to Scottish Building Society for their kind donation to Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.

“I was lucky enough to help raise money for them at Christmas. They are truly an inspirational charity who do so much to help those in need. This donation will no doubt go a long way in providing the children and young people at the hospital with the care they deserve.”
