Lock Sam Skinner has today been named Scottish Building Society Player of the Month for January, winning the fan vote after a standout month in the capital.
Skinner crossed the whitewash twice in January, capping an impressive month in the capital boiler room. The lock finished well to spark his side’s home win against Black Lion, before scoring away from close range at Scarlets, helping the side to a gutsy bonus-point loss at Llanelli.
The experienced lock also skippered the side for the first time at Parc y Scarlets, before his form saw him earn a call up to the Scotland squad for the Guinness Six Nations, featuring from the bench against Ireland at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.
On the award, Skinner said: “It means a lot to be voted Player of the Month, especially given the calibre of the other players that have been nominated.
I’m really enjoying my rugby at the minute, after a spell on the sidelines it has been great to be back in the action in front of the fans at home and on the road.”
As part of the award Skinner is able to donate £500 – courtesy of Scottish Building Society – to a charity of their choice from our Main Club Partner’s foundation, with the lock choosing Dr Bell’s Family Centre.
Dr Bell’s aims to be a welcoming place where families with young children can get encouragement, support and advice in a relaxed environment. They provide universal and targeted provision – for everyone and focusing on the most disadvantaged – in order to minimise stigma.
The charity plays a significant part in creating community cohesion by bringing together people of different cultures around a shared agenda – the welfare of children.
