150th anniversary 1872 Cup ticket timeline and pricing confirmed

The sales timeline and ticket pricing for the 150th anniversary of world rugby’s oldest intercity derby – the 1872 Cup decider between Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors at BT Murrayfield Stadium – was today announced, and starts with season ticket member access this coming Tuesday (18 October).

A big crowd is to be expected at the hotly-anticipated derby clash, which returns to its traditional festive spot in the rugby calendar, allowing supporters to kick start their Hogmanay celebrations in style on Friday 30 December (kick-off 7.35pm), at the home of Scottish rugby.

Edinburgh Rugby’s 22/23 Season Ticket Members will get the first opportunity to secure their spots for Scottish club rugby’s showpiece event – which is included in the Season Ticket Membership. Members simply need to login to their ticketing account to reserve, upgrade and buy additional seats at BT Murrayfield.

Castle Club Members will then get the chance to snap up places at the following Tuesday (25 October) before the public sale goes live one week later on Tuesday 1 November.

Match tickets start at £5 for U16s, £20 for students and concessions, and £25 for adults.

Groups of 10 or more can benefit from a 10% discount on all adult tickets purchased, while club commission allows teams to earn up to 20% commission on match tickets purchased through the club’s ticket secretary, or individually online. Click here for more information.

Both clubs will play in yet-to-be unveiled commemorative kit that will pay tribute to the first-ever match between the two sides at Burbank on 23 November 1872, with fans encouraged to act fast to secure their place at this celebration event this December.

The 1872 Cup will once again be decided on aggregate over two legs, with the opening derby taking place at Scotsoun Stadium on Friday 23 December, setting up the decisive encounter in the capital.

Edinburgh Rugby are the current holders of the famous trophy having beaten the Warriors at BT Murrayfield in May, when an emphatic 28-11 victory was enough to overturn the Scotstoun defeat and secure the 1872 Cup, Scottish x Italian Shield and a place in this season’s Heineken Champions Cup.

With an electric derby atmosphere guaranteed, fans can start their Hogmanay celebrations early on Friday 30 December for the 150th anniversary of world rugby’s oldest intercity derby.
