As the countdown to the 2023/24 season continues, we’ve taken stock of our incoming players for the upcoming campaign.

Ben Healy – Fly Half

Scotland Internationalist Ben Healy joins the club on a two-year deal, having enjoyed a hugely impressive campaign at stand-off for Munster.

The highly regarded playmaker has been in fine form this season, recently helping his current side turn over Glasgow and Leinster en-route to a BKT URC Grand Final against the DHL Stormers.

The fly-half, who made his debut for Scotland against Italy in the recent Guinness Six Nations, has seen his form rewarded with a call-up to Scotland’s training squad for the upcoming Nations Series and World Cup tournament.

Ewan Ashman – Hooker

Highly-rated Scotland international hooker Ashman will join Edinburgh Rugby this summer on a four-year deal from Sale Sharks. Like Healy, Ashman has helped his current side to a final berth, with the Sharks taking on Saracens in the Gallagher Premiership Final.

A dynamic athlete around the park, Ashman caught the attention of his country by scoring acrobatically in the corner to help secure a famous 15-13 win over Australia at BT Murrayfield Stadium.

The front-row will join future teammate and fellow hooker Dave Cherry in Gregor Townsend’s summer training squad.

Javan Sebastian – Tighthead Prop

Scotland international tighthead prop Sebastian makes the move north from BKT URC rivals Scarlets on a two-year deal.

The prop is another new signing that will be heading to the capital early as part of Scotland’s training squad for the upcoming Nations Series and World Cup tournament. Sebastian has been capped three times for Scotland, having made his international debut against Japan in November 2021, with the prop’s father born and raised in the Scottish capital.

Scott Steele – Scrum Half

Steele joins the capital on a one year, and brings winning pedigree having triumphed in the English Premiership with Harlequins.

The Scotland internationalist – who attended the city’s Merchiston Castle School – returns north having plied his professional career at Leicester Tigers, London Irish, and Harlequins.

A product of Dumfries Academy and Dumfries Saints, Steele has so far earned four caps for Scotland, making his international debut in the away Guinness Six Nations victory against Wales in October 2020.

Robin Hislop – Loosehead Prop

‘Bomber’ Hislop makes his return to the capital, joining on a two-year deal from English Premiership finalists Saracens. The prop started his career at Edinburgh Rugby, making his debut against Cardiff Rugby in 2011 – becoming Edinburgh player #1147.

The former Scotland U20 international then moved to the English Championship, first with Rotherham Titans and latterly Doncaster Knights, before stints in the Premiership with Wasps and Saracens.

Tom Dodd – Flanker

Former Scotland U20 back-row Tom Dodd will add to the Edinburgh back row stocks, making the move from English Championship side Coventry Rugby on a two-year deal.

Dodd was part of the age-grade squad alongside current Edinburgh players Blair Kinghorn, Darcy Graham and Charlie Shiel, scoring four tries in 10 appearances for the junior Scots.

The back-rower, who helped Coventry to an impressive third place finish in the English Championship, has built a reputation on strong carrying and an outstanding defensive workrate.
