Men’s and women’s winners celebrated at Season Awards night

Edinburgh Rugby rolled out the red carpet at EICC on Saturday night for their annual Season Awards, recognising the outstanding achievements of players and staff across the men's and women's teams for the 2023/24 campaign.

Ritchie and Stewart take top honours

The night saw Jamie Ritchie claim the prestigious Scottish Building Society Player of the Year award after a brilliant bounce back campaign in the capital back-row.

On the women’s side, vice-captain Alex Stewart, who enjoyed a breakout campaign for both club and country, was named the It’s Good 2 Give Women’s Player of the Year.

Goosen takes home men’s Players’ Player

Wes Goosen secured the coveted men’s Breadalbane Players’ Player of the Year award.

This award, voted on by his fellow players, highlights the respect Goosen commands within the squad. His impressive season has undoubtedly won over the hearts of the Edinburgh faithful at in the Hive Stadium terraces as well.

Double award winner: Alex Stewart

In an impressive feat, Stewart wasn’t done there. Her efforts and leadership in 2023/24 were further acknowledged by her peers as she also secured the Women’s Player’s Player of the Year award, making her a double award winner for the evening.

Celebrating commitment and community

Other prestigious awards were handed out throughout the night. Pierre Schoeman’s dedication to the community – as he raised over £10,000 for Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity – saw him win the Our Burgh Community Award, while WP Nel’s unwavering commitment to the jersey earned him the coveted 2023/24 Caullie Lug.

Young guns shine bright

The future looks bright for Edinburgh Rugby with the recognition of some exceptional young talent.

Matt Currie’s standout campaign was rewarded with the Breadalbane Breakthrough Player of the Year award, while Freddy Douglas was named the Breadalbane Pro Academy Player of the Year.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for players, coaches, staff, sponsors, partners and supporters to come together under one roof to recap another exciting season in the Scottish capital.
