Charlie McCaig

Centre

Scottish qualified centre Charlie McCaig joined Edinburgh Rugby from Exeter Chiefs ahead of the 2025/26 season on an initial two-year deal.

McCaig is a product of the Chiefs’ successful academy set-up. Having initially started playing rugby as a six-year-old at Sidmouth RFC, the gifted young back worked his way up through the age groups before eventually coming onto the radar of the Chiefs through their Developing Player Programme (DPP).

Club coaches liked what they saw of McCaig, who was previously educated at Perrott Hill and then Sherborne School.

Using the club’s strong links with the University of Exeter, McCaig continued his role with Chiefs with that of studying for a degree in Liberal Arts.

In 2022, he was part of the highly successful University of Exeter First XV, who lifted the BUCS title with victory over Durham at Worcester’s Sixways Stadium.

McCaig spent time on loan at English Championship side Cornish Pirates in 2024/25, scoring three tries in 19 matches.

McCaig qualifies for Scotland through his grandfather.
