New Head of Rugby Operations appointed
Edinburgh Rugby today announced the appointment of former Wasps team manager, Dave Bassett, as the club’s new Head of Rugby Operations.
He takes on the role from Matt Cornwell, who left the club earlier this week, and is available to start immediately, after Wasps entered administration late last month.
An operations specialist, Dave joins the club with around a decade of experience in the sport earned at Loughborough University and Leicester Tigers before his most recent five-year spell at Wasps.
Bassett will focus primarily on team operations and logistics, as well as player recruitment and retention planning.
He said: “I am delighted to be joining Edinburgh Rugby. During the process I have been really impressed with Doug [Struth, Managing Director] and Mike [Blair, Head Coach] and their passion and vision for the club.
“It is a club with a long and rich history, in a brilliant city, which my family and I look forward to making our home.
“I can’t wait to get started, meet everyone in the organisation and make a positive impact. I would like to thank everyone at Wasps. A sad ending but a great group of players, staff and supporters, to whom I wish all the very best.”
Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director, Douglas Struth said: “We’re delighted to welcome someone of Dave’s expertise and enthusiasm to the club. He’s a great fit for the culture we continue to cultivate here at Edinburgh Rugby and I’m sure his experience will allow him to hit the ground running.
“The break in our regular season is well-timed in that he can get settled, get to know everyone and begin planning for our return.”
