The rangy fullback joined the FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy ahead of the 2019-20 season.
Sweeney represented Scotland at U18 level, and impressed when playing for Edinburgh ‘A’ against Glasgow Warriors in 2020.
The back-three player was hit by long-term injury, but made his return playing for Heriot’s in the FOSROC Super6 in 2022, before making his debut for Edinburgh Rugby against Connacht in 2023.
