PROFILE

Born in Edinburgh, tighthead prop Ollie Blyth-Lafferty started playing at Boroughmuir RFC in Primary 1 and came all the way through the club’s youth ranks, winning the U18 Boys’ Youth Cup in 2022/23.

He had a plumbing apprenticeship lined up after leaving school, but an academy offer from Edinburgh changed his path. He joined the FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy ahead of the 2023/24 season alongside his older brother and fellow front-rower, Jerry.

After representing Scotland at U18 level, Blyth-Lafferty stepped up to the U20s while still only 18. He made his debut against Samoa at the 2024 World Rugby U20 Trophy at Hive Stadium and started the final in a 48-10 win over the USA that sealed promotion back to the top tier.

He packed down in that front row alongside Jerry, as the brothers made history together in Scotland colours. He went on to feature in the 2025 U20 Six Nations and the World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy, and has also represented Emerging Scotland.

He made his senior Edinburgh debut aged 19, off the bench in the URC win over Ospreys in November 2025.

Two weeks later he made his first start in a memorable Investec Champions Cup victory over RC Toulon at Hive Stadium, and that week he signed his first professional contract, committing his future to the club until 2028.

That December he and Jerry, who made his own Edinburgh debut that day, played together for the first time for their boyhood club in the 1872 Cup at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.

The 6ft 4in tighthead went on to become a regular in the Edinburgh pack, making 15 appearances in his breakthrough season, including four starts in the Champions Cup.

He has continued to start in Edinburgh’s front row in 2026/27, and Head Coach Sean Everitt has backed him to force his way into contention for Rugby World Cup 2027.
