Scotland international Dylan Richardson joined Edinburgh Rugby ahead of the 2025/26 season, signing from URC rivals the Hollywoodbets Sharks on a two-year deal. He qualifies for Scotland through his Edinburgh-born father, Neil.
A product of Kearsney College in KwaZulu-Natal, Richardson represented South Africa at U20 level before making his Sharks debut in Super Rugby in 2019.
He spent the formative years of his career as a flanker. He converted to hooker towards the end of his time at Kings Park, working under Sean Everitt, whose influence was key in bringing him to the capital.
A dynamic and explosive ball carrier, Richardson made his Scotland debut off the bench in the back row against Japan in November 2021. He had to wait 959 days for his second cap, this time at hooker on the 2024 summer tour of the Americas.
There he scored three tries, including one against Canada in Ottawa. He then featured in that year’s Autumn Nations Series against Fiji, South Africa and Australia, taking his tally to six caps.
He has brought valuable versatility to the Edinburgh pack, starting at openside in the early weeks of the 2025/26 season while continuing to train as a hooker.
He has played in both positions since. That form earned him a place in Scotland’s squad for the 2025 Autumn Nations Series, and he started in the back row in the 85-0 win over the USA at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.
