A Borders man through and through, Jedburgh-born lock Glen Young returned north to join Edinburgh in the summer of 2021.

Young came through the ranks at Jed-Forest’s Riverside Park before kick-starting his professional career with Newcastle Falcons in 2012 as an academy prospect, while also representing Scotland U20.

He spent three seasons as a senior player at Kingston Park (2016–19), with a loan spell at Doncaster Knights along the way. He then moved to Harlequins in 2019, where he was a regular starter in the Twickenham side’s second row.

Young made his Edinburgh debut off the bench in the 34-10 URC win over Cardiff Rugby in January 2022, before scoring a brace on his first start against CA Brive in the EPCR Challenge Cup.

His form in that first season earned him a Scotland call-up, and he won his first cap off the bench in the third Test against Argentina in Santiago del Estero in July 2022. He added further caps against Argentina and Australia that autumn.

He was named in Scotland’s squad for the 2024 Six Nations and made his first Test start against Canada in Ottawa that summer.

A torn pectoral cut his tour short and led to an injury-hit 2024/25 season.

He bounced back strongly in 2025/26, becoming a key figure in the Edinburgh engine room once again, and he extended his stay in the capital until the end of the 2026/27 season.
