Born in Dumfries, Currie came through Dumfries Saints and Merchiston Castle School before joining Edinburgh in 2019. The 6ft 3in centre started all five of Scotland U20’s matches in the 2020 U20 Six Nations.

He made his professional debut for his boyhood club in February 2021 as a late replacement against Munster at BT Murrayfield, becoming player #1287.

He scored his first try for the club in the Rainbow Cup win over Zebre two months later. Currie signed his first professional deal in January 2022, and that same month took on a leadership role against Ospreys at just 20 years old.

He came of age in 2023/24, starting 19 of his 22 appearances across the backline, scoring five tries and winning the club’s Breakthrough Player of the Season award.

That form earned a place on Scotland’s 2024 summer tour of the Americas. He made his Test debut at outside centre in the 73-12 win over Canada in Ottawa, and scored his first international try against Chile in Santiago.

Currie followed that with another consistent campaign in 2024/25, making 24 appearances. Highlights included a hat-trick against Munster that earned him a call-up to Scotland’s Six Nations squad. He has also represented Scotland A, and played alongside his younger brother, back-row Tom Currie, for Edinburgh.

After a frustrating 2025/26 season, disrupted by injury, Currie was named Edinburgh co-captain ahead of the 2026/27 season, sharing the role with Magnus Bradbury.

He became the club’s 86th captain and the first centre to lead the side since Graham Shiel in 1999/2000.
