German-born tighthead prop Paul Hill was raised in Doncaster, starting his rugby with the Doncaster Knights juniors before attending Prince Henry’s Grammar School in Otley.
He began his professional career at Yorkshire Carnegie, debuting in 2014, and represented England at U16, U18 and U20 level before joining Northampton Saints in 2015.
Just three months after his first Saints appearance, he was called into the England squad for the 2016 Six Nations and made his Test debut in Rome, the first of six England caps.
Over nine seasons at Franklin’s Gardens he made close to 200 appearances. He started the 2019 Premiership Rugby Cup final win over Saracens, brought up his 100th Saints appearance in 2019/20, and reached 150 in March 2022. He signed off by helping Northampton win the 2024 Premiership title.
Hill joined Edinburgh ahead of the 2024/25 season and made an immediate impression on the capital faithful. He made 14 appearances in his first campaign, 11 of them starts, and scored a stunning solo try from the back of a lineout in a 50-33 home win over Benetton.
He became a mainstay of the front-row rotation in 2025/26, featuring 21 times across the URC and Investec Champions Cup. In May 2026 he signed a two-year extension that keeps him at Hive Stadium until the end of the 2027/28 season.
He has continued to play a key role in 2026/27, scoring off the bench in the home win over the DHL Stormers as Edinburgh made their best start to a URC season.
